What is dry sift ?
It is one of the most ancient method of separation. It requires dried material that is bounced or tumbled on a specific Micron mesh to separate the trichome heads from the plant matter. When combined with great genetics, proper handling of the material and the right mesh size, dry sift can produce some of the nicest melt. It can either be done by hand but is more often done using tumbler style machines nowadays.
What is IWS ?
Ice water separation is when you use water and agitation to separate the trichome heads from the plant matter. Trichomes detached from the plant then fall to the bottom of the water and are passed through different micron mesh sizes depending on the product desired. This method allows the use of Fresh frozen material in addition to the dried one.
**This method does require an extra step of (drying the heads) since it is ice water separated. That step can either be done using an a Freeze dryer or an air drying technique**.
What is Rosin ?
Rosin is the product that is extracted from the dried trichome heads. Once you've separated your heads from the plant you now have loose resin or what some call powdered hash. It then requires heat, pressure and additionnal mesh filters to extract the cleanest Rosin from the heads. The fresh pressed Rosin is usually then stored in air tight containers and cured for a certain period of time.
